Your young divines (ages 6-12) will get to color and learn more about the folkore and spirituality inspired by the Haitian, Brazilian and Philippine Divine of The Divine Coloring Book! The class focuses on coloring, oral storytelling, music and mindfulness activities. The Divine is a multicultural 100-page coloring book for people of all ages, inspired by folklore and spirituality from Haiti, Brazil and the Philippines by Christine Joy Amagan Ferrer (Ms. Tine). The workshop is adapted for the book, which is a curriculum in of itself.

While many of us grew up with mythologies about Greek and Roman gods, as well as stories like Cinderella, Little Mermaid and Robin Hood, few of us have been exposed to the stories included in The Divine—stories that have been passed down from generation to generation through traditional dance, music, and oral storytelling. The Divine draws a connection between the  cultures and beliefs of these diasporas, in hopes of giving them the attention they deserve. Every people, every culture has its own way of honoring the sacred and the spiritual. When we apply the wisdom of these stories to our everyday lives, we discover a deeper relationship to the world around us.

I am a multidisciplinary creative soul from San Francisco, the creatress behind Eyes Opened (EO). I am a cultural arts practitioner of Philippine, Haitian and Afro-Brazilian folkloric music and dance. By day, I have been empowering youth through movement arts for over a decade. By night, I am a freelance designer and media producer. Folklore, spirituality, cultural art forms and rhythms of the diaspora inspire me. Through visual, written and embodied storytelling, I use movement, media and design to help others tell their stories. I believe, if we face ourselves, we can heal ourselves and ignite the sacred power within. I also LOVE chai tea. Read more...
